Blue Mountains Adventure & Hike Tour

Barefoot Downunder’s Blue Mountains Tour from Sydney takes you into the heart of the Blue Mountains for a big day of hiking and exploring! Escape the city and see kangaroos in the wild, hike into a Jurassic rainforest and walk along the Valley of the Waters – National Pass trail and pass epic lookouts with amazing views seeing up to 14 waterfalls, including Empress Falls and Wentworth Falls. Spot native wildlife and hear the fun interesting facts of the local area from your passionate guide, take a selfie with the ‘Three Sisters’ and snap a photo of the coolest street art walk in Katoomba, then take in views at one of the ultimate lookouts and enjoy a free drink back in Sydney!

Our adventure tours from Sydney are led by our fun, experienced and passionate Aussie guides (and the owner too!) who all love to share their local knowledge as well as having a laugh and telling a few jokes along the way. Our groups are smaller so we can show you places off-the-beaten-track where not many tours visit making it a more personalised day out for our guests.

If you are looking for a true Australian experience exploring the Blue Mountains and love the outdoors and hiking, then this adventure tour is for you!

The nitty-gritty:

Our Blue Mountains Day Tour picks up from 5 locations across Sydney before making the journey up to the mountains, forget the crowded zoo’s and small cages as we’ll show you kangaroos in the wild! Then get ready for an epic 2.5+ hour guided return hike down in Wentworth Falls along the National Pass trail and the Valley of the Waters. Explore and see up to 14 different waterfalls, take in amazing views of the Jamison Valley, see the dramatic cliffs and scenery and spot native wildlife, birds, and local fauna. The hike back up includes a 15 min section with a set of vertical stairs and steep steps so we ask everyone to have at least a medium level of fitness, (But the effort is all well and worth it!) During the hot months bring your swimmers to cool off and swim under one of the waterfalls if you like.

After the big hike, then jump back on the bus as we take you to a small local village town in the Blue Mountains called Leura, here you can relax for lunch. We like to support the local community and there are plenty of great restaurants or cafe’s for you to choose from. They offer everything from a kangaroo burger, to fish and chips, Vegan cafe and also vegetarian meal options at many of the restaurants or you can bring your own picnic lunch to enjoy at the nearby park. Your choice!

After lunch snap a selfie with the famous Three Sisters rock formation and hear the dreamtime stories from your guide. Then keep your camera handy as we do a quick stop at one of the coolest street art walks in Katoomba where you can see the local artists murals and graffiti.

Saving the best for last, we take you out to our final lookout spot where you can sit on the edge of the world and take in the Ultimate views of the Blue Mountains! After a jam packed day of fun and adventure, jump back in the bus to relax as we pump some great tunes for the bus ride back to Sydney.

Our Blue Mountains day trip provides one drop off at the end of the day just near Central Train Station, you can leave from here or hang out with your new mates over a cold FREE beverage at a local travellers bar just outside of the drop off point. What better way to finish the day than with new mates, a free bevvy and a few laughs!

Blue Mountains Tour

One of Australia’s own World Heritage Sites, the Greater Blue Mountains area features a dynamic landscape of vast gorges, sandstone plateaus, fertile rivers and lakes, and huge cliffs diving headfirst into unexplored valleys.

The Blue Mountains are also home to rare and endangered wildlife, many of which rely on the extraordinary diversity of the area’s eucalypt species. These same trees are also responsible for the region’s name, as the landscape’s blueish hue results from the oils released by eucalypts in warm weather.

Just 60–90 minutes northwest of Sydney, the Greater Blue Mountains Area is a popular travel spot among outdoor enthusiasts of all ages. Hiking trails, abseiling, and magnificent lookouts are just a few of the things drawing more visitors to the Blue Mountains every year.

Tour Reviews

October 5, 2016

From the moment my girlfriend and I stepped foot on the minibus, we immediately warmed to Adam’s Australian friendliness and great sense of humour. Adam gave such an interesting insight into the places that we passed on our journey to and from the Blue Mountain sites.
Adam shared with us the absolute best waterfalls, views and knowledge of the Blue Mountains, taking us for short hikes off the beaten track- where all the other tour groups did not venture. This made us feel especially fortunate to experience such outstanding natural beauty.
After an absolutely fantastic day, we arrived for a drink back at Side Bar in central Sydney and Adam even managed to luckily swindle some free snacks after our long day.
Best day trip we could have possibly hoped for, would recommend to anyone in the Sydney area. Thank you so much for an incredible tour.

“The best tour during my stay in Oz” – TripAdvisor

I did the Blue Mountain tour with Barefoot Downunder, which was the best during my 2 weeks stay in Australia. Adam was so much fun, constantly telling us interesting stories, fun facts and useful tips. Adam brought us to very nice areas, less touristy which I loved the most. It’s not always you get a tour guide so passionate about what they do. I would highly recommend Barefoot Downunder, it’s low cost, you guaranteed good time. Especially suitable for people with medium to advanced fitness level. thank you so much Adam!

“Quit your research this is the right tour company” – TripAdvisor

Like most people I wanted to get the best blue mountains tour possible with a guide who knew their stuff and made the trip engaging and interesting…oh and got me the most Instagram likes 😛 the tour with Adam at Barefoot down under did not disappoint. Not only, did he know all the best spots (which I verified through other locals) where we got to see the best of the blue mountains, the three sisters, Wentworth falls and Lincolns rock but he made the whole day fun and engaging.

He really knew his stuff through studying mountains but would crack a few jokes and make the tour lively. His playlist for the coach trip is pretty awesome too. What I loved the most about this company however is principals. He explained the rationale behind everything, e.g. Why they do not visit the wildlife park which all other tours do (animal ethics) and instead why Barefoot down under takes you to see kangaroos in the wild or why scenic world is a total gimmic (it’s a cable car ride charging a whopping 35 dollars)… why bother when you’ve also paid a company to do a tour of the blue mountains. I completely support this logic and attitude. All in all…the best tour I’ve ever had- thanks Barefoot downunder!
