All Figure 8 Pools Hikes require a medium-high fitness level and the track we take involves hiking down and back up a steep track, uneven surfaces, rock hopping over two headlands (balance is required), and suited to the fit and active person. The hike itself is around 3 hours total return time. The climb back up is 215m or 700ft and 6km or 4mi hike return. Our guides have the right to not allow you on tour if you do not have the right fitness level.
Our trips are only available during the low-tide times, however if the Figure 8 Pools are not safe to visit on the day due to other dangerous ocean conditions then an alternative activity may be offered or the trip will be cancelled.
The Low Down:
Visit the Royal National Park or as the locals like to call it, the ‘Nasho’, on our eco-adventure tour from Sydney.
Enjoy a half day tour from Sydney and hike to the Figure 8 Pools in the Royal National Park along the Coast Track. See the beautiful scenery and coastal views along the 6km return (3.7 mi) trek spotting native wildlife and birds along with whales and dolphins off the coast during the whale migration season. Our coastal hike includes slippery and uneven terrain, steep sections, an uphill hike, rock hopping and requires a medium-high level of fitness.
Walk through Burning Palms Beach and see the heritage listed Coastal Shacks and learn about the local area and how the ‘shacks’ came to be. We’ll rock hop around the headlands to reach the Figure 8 Pools where you spend time to explore this spectacular area and can swim in naturally formed rock pools of all sizes and shapes including the famous Figure 8. We’ll help you grab that insta-famous #figure8pools photo too!
After exploring at the Figure 8 Pools, we hike back up the mountain to the top and make our way out of the Royal National Park back to Sydney.
* Please read the ‘Need to Know’ tab for further information on the hike, safety and requirements for our Figure Eight Pools Coastal Adventure Tour.
